A multistate Listeria outbreak has been linked to vending machine sandwiches and snacks sold under the brand names Fresh & Ready Foods, Fresh Take Crave Away, and City Point Market Fresh Food to Go. The outbreak has resulted in at least 10 hospitalizations in California and Nevada. A recall for the items, sold at corporate offices, medical buildings, and healthcare facilities in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Washington, has been issued.
Outbreak Overview
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began investigating this outbreak in 2024 after reports of Listeria infections among individuals in healthcare settings. The investigation was initially inconclusive but was reopened in April 2025 when the outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes was found in environmental samples collected from the Fresh & Ready Foods facility in San Fernando, California.
All 10 individuals affected by the outbreak were hospitalized, with ages ranging from 41 to 87 years old. Notably, six of these individuals were already patients in healthcare facilities where contaminated Fresh & Ready Foods products were served.

Recalled Products and Distribution
Fresh & Ready Foods voluntarily recalled a range of ready-to-eat products, including sandwiches, snack boxes, and pastas. The recalled items were distributed between April 18 and April 28, 2025, and have “Use By” dates from April 22 to May 19, 2025. These products were sold in various locations, including hospitals, hotels, convenience stores, airports, and airlines across Arizona, California, Nevada, and Washington.

Health Risks and Recommendations
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. In pregnant women, Listeria infection can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths.
Symptoms of Listeria infection may include:
- Fever
- Muscle aches
- Nausea
- Tiredness
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Stiff neck
- Confusion
- Loss of balance
- Convulsions
Symptoms usually start within two weeks of consuming contaminated food but can begin as early as the same day or as late as 10 weeks after exposure.
Recommendations for Consumers:
- Do not consume any of the recalled products.
- Dispose of the products safely or return them to the place of purchase.
- Clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the recalled products, as Listeria can survive in refrigerated temperatures and spread to other foods and surfaces.
- If you or a family member experience symptoms of Listeria infection, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
