A woman died in a crash with a Hutchinson High School bus carrying a cross-country team in Carver County. The fatal crash happened Tuesday evening at the intersection of Highway 212 and County Road 31 near Norwood Young America. Ellen Follestad (21) of Glencoe was headed east on Highway 212 when her car collided with a school bus making a left turn onto westbound Highway 212 from northbound County Road 31. Traffic on the highway has the right of way.
At the time of the crash, the school bus was returning from a cross-country meet in Jordan. A student on the bus sent WCCO-TV cellphone video of the crash. Two students, Samuel Colvin (14) and Graham O’Neill (12) were slightly injured. The school bus driver, Robert Streich (78) of Hutchinson, was not injured.
Follestad was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries where she died Wednesday morning. Her mother told local news media that “she was an absolute vibrant young lady.” Follestad is survived by four siblings. Her father died in a motorcycle crash about two years ago.
