Seafood and sushi sold at restaurants and at Albertsons, Safeway, and Sprouts stores in Colorado is the source of a Salmonella Thompson outbreak that has sickened 102 people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Although the outbreak includes 14 states, all but two of the people sickened are either Colorado residents or traveled to Colorado during the week they got sick. Nineteen people have been hospitalized.

Northeast Seafood Products of Denver has issued a seafood Salmonella recall in connection with a Salmonella outbreak. It includes Haddock, Monkfish, Bone-in Trout, Grouper, Red Snapper, Red Rock Cod, Ocean Perch, Pacific Cod, Halibut, Coho Salmon, Atlantic Salmon Portions, Lane Snapper, Tilapia, All Natural Salmon Fillet, Pacific Sole, and Farm-Raised Striped Bass.

The recalled products were sold cooked and raw in sushi at Colorado restaurants and in the fresh seafood cases at Albertsons, Safeway, and Sprouts supermarkets in Colorado from May 2021 to October 7, 2021.

Seafood and Sushi Salmonella Outbreak

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea that can be bloody. These symptoms usually develop within six to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. The people sickened in this outbreak, who range in age from less than 1 to 85 years, reported the onset of illness on dates between May 11, 2021, to September 7, 2021.

The number of cases reported from each state is: Arizona (1), Colorado (82), Connecticut (1), Iowa (1), Minnesota (2), Missouri (1), Nebraska (2), New Jersey (2), Pennsylvania (1), Texas (2), Virginia (2), Washington (2) Wisconsin (2) and Wyoming (2).

In Colorado, the number of cases reported from each county is: Adams (3), Arapahoe (6), Boulder (8), Broomfield (3), Denver (19), Douglas (7), Eagle (3), El Paso (2), Grand (1), Jefferson (6), Larimer (13), Pitkin (4), Summit (1) and Weld (6), according to the Colorado Department of Health and Environment.
