Northeast Seafood Products Issues Recall in Salmonella Outbreak

Northeast Seafood Products of Denver has issued a seafood Salmonella recall in connection with a Salmonella Thompson outbreak that has sickened 102 people in 14 states.  Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Salmonella can cause serious illness and death. In this outbreak, 19 people developed such severe infections they needed to be hospitalized.

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, fever and diarrhea that can be bloody.  These symptoms usually develop within six to 72 hours after eating contaminated food.

The people sickened in this seafood Salmonella outbreak reported eating a variety of seafood both raw as sushi and cooked. The recalled seafood was sold at restaurants and in the fresh seafood cases at Albertsons, Safeway, and Sprouts supermarkets in Colorado from May 2021 to October 7, 2021.

The seafood Salmonella recall includes Haddock, Monkfish, Bone-in Trout, Grouper, Red Snapper, Red Rock Cod, Ocean Perch, Pacific Cod, Halibut, Coho Salmon, Atlantic Salmon Portions, Lane Snapper, Tilapia, All Natural Salmon Fillet, Pacific Sole, and Farm-Raised Striped Bass.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) collected environmental samples from the company’s facility. Test results were positive for the outbreak strain of Salmonella Thompson. Northeast Seafood Products has been temporarily shut down while the FDA conducts its investigation.
