Marketside Salad Served at ND Restaurant Sickens 6 with Cyclospora

Six people in North Dakota developed Cyclospora infections after they ate Walmart’s Marketside brand salad served at a North Dakota restaurant, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This North Dakota restaurant cluster part of a multistate Cyclospora outbreak that has sickened more than 509 people, hospitalizing 23 of them. The name of the restaurant has not been released.

Marketside is one of several brands of salad to be recalled in association with this outbreak. All of the recalled salad bagged salads contain iceberg lettuce, carrots and red cabbage and all of them were made at the Fresh Express facility in Streamwood, IL. A recall for bagged salad sold in 31 states and Washington, DC includes Fresh Express brand salads and at least six store brands. However, federal health officials say other brands could be included as the investigation progresses.

The recalled salads containing iceberg lettuce, carrots and red cabbage are all marked with the product code of  Z178 or a lower.

The recalled bagged salads were sold between June 6 and June 26 in the following states:  Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
