South Dakota House Explosion Kills Grandparents and Baby, 2 Other Children Injured

Ladonna and Bill Hupp were babysitting their three grandchildren when tragedy struck Fort Pierre, South Dakota. At about 10:30 AM Wednesday, a catastrophic explosion occurred at the Hupp house in the Antelope Creek area along Highway 1806. Neighbors in the rural area reported the blast, which completely leveled the house. Sadly, 61-year-old Ladonna and 6-month-old Harper Hupp died at the scene. Bill, age 61, was rushed to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital where he later died. Two young boys, 5-year-old Myles, and 3-year-old Royce Hupp were airlifted to a burn center in Minnesota for treatment. The children’s parents, Kelsey and Trevor Hupp were away at work when the explosion happened. The South Dakota State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause. A family friend set up a Go Fund Me page to help support the Hupp family during this time.
