A total of 127 Salmonella Oranienburg illnesses have been reported among people ranging in age from less than 1 year to 82 years old from August 3, 2021 to September 1, 2021. Health officials have interviewed 49 of the patients, 18 of them have been hospitalized. Some of the people interviewed said they ate at restaurants before they became ill.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has collected records from the restaurants where the sick people ate and is analyzing them to try and identify a common food distributor or supplier. They have not yet identified the food source or released the names of restaurants associated with this outbreak.

Last week, the Grundy County Health Department in Illinois announced it was investigating a Salmonella outbreak at La Mex restaurant in Morris, IL may be part of a multistate outbreak that is being investigated by the FDA and the CDC. Those illnesses involved customers who ate at the restaurant between August 31, 2021, and September 7, 2021. It’s not clear if the Salmonella outbreak at this restaurant is part of the multistate Salmonella Orianenburg outbreak.
