West Yellowstone Gas Explosion Injures 4

Four people in West Yellowstone, MT were injured in gas explosion at a mobile home on Tuesday morning.  A father and his three children, ages 2-13, were inside their home when it exploded shortly after 11:30 a.m. All of them were taken to Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg, Idaho.

Neighbors told local media that they heard a loud boom and looked out to see the house, located in the 100 block of Geyser Avenue, in ruins. From under the pile of rubble, they could hear one child calling for his father and they worked together to get him out.

Fire officials say there are three things to remember in a situation where there is a suspected gas leak inside a home.

  1. Alert everyone and get outside immediately.
  2. Do not use anything that could ignite the gas -including light switches, cell phones, flashlights, matches or vehicles, until you are a safe distance away.
  3. Call 911.

Two of the family members were severely injured and suffered serious burns, Hebgen Basin Rural Fire District Chief Shane Grube said. Pedro Galvan suffered second-degree and third-degree burns and a broken wrist. His daughter Mineli suffered wounds to her face, his son Pedro Jesus fractured his foot and his son Aron sustained injuries to his arm that have required surgeries and a full-body cast. A GoFundMe page has been established to help the family.
