Canton Teenager Killed in Crash on MN HWY 52

A Canton, Minnesota teenager was tragically killed last night when a pickup truck crossed over the center line on MN Highway 52 and hit the vehicle she was driving head on.1

Alcohol was detected in the system of the driver of the pickup.2

Our thoughts are with the family of this young woman whose life may have been shortened because someone drank alcohol and got behind the wheel of a vehicle. The enormity of the tragedy is incomprehensible.

We are constantly reminding people not to drink and drive. Please, make arrangements for a ride home before you start drinking. There is no excuse for drinking and driving.

Minnesota State Patrol Preliminary Report

A GMC pickup was traveling northbound on Highway 52 between Fountain and Chatfield. The driver, a 55-year-old woman from Ashland, Illinois, crossed over the centerline and struck a Ford Taurus head-on, resulting in fatal injuries to the Taurus driver, who died at the scene. After impact, the GMC pickup went into the west ditch and rolled, ejecting the unbelted driver. The GMC driver was taken to St Mary’s Hospital with believed non-life-threatening injuries.

The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office, Chatfield Police Department, Preston Police Department, Preston Fire and Ambulance, Chatfield Fire and Ambulance, Mayo One and the Minnesota Department of Transportation assisted the State Patrol at the scene.

This driver was from Illinois. Where did she drink? If it was a bar or restaurant, the family may have a lawsuit against that business under Minnesota dram shop laws. This means the family can sue for compensation. It is illegal to serve alcohol to someone who has obviously had too much to drink, but it happens every day.

Contact our law firm about a lawsuit against a drunk driver, a bar and restaurant and others. Our lawyers help families with wrongful death claims get justice and compensation, including a recent $6 million settlement for a family.
