Salmonella from Minneapolis Festival

Update: The initial source was roasted pig (farmyard kind) that then contaminated the guinea pig meat. Read about this Minneapolis Salmonella investigation here.

Our lawyers have been contacted by people who got Salmonella food poisoning after eating at the Ecuador Independence Day (celebracion de independencia de Ecuador) festival in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on August 11, 2013. At least 81 people went to Hennepin County Medical Center and Minneapolis Children’s Hospital, according to the Star-Tribune.

The outbreak appears to be caused by eating guinea pig meat and other food from one of the vendors at the Independence Day celebration.

Bill Belknap, spokesman for Hennepin County Public Health, told the Star-Tribune, “Some of those who fell ill ate a traditional Ecuadorian dish that contained guinea pig meat, but others who didn’t eat that dish also got sick. . . . It was most likely a bad food item or items being poorly handled. The diseased organism that originated somewhere got spread to other food items by cross contamination.”

Hennepin County Public Health is not releasing the name of the vendor. You can contact our lawyers to find out if you can sue the vendor for compensation.

Attorney Fred Pritzker and his Bad Bug Law Team have won millions for Salmonella victims and their families. They have offices in Minneapolis, MN.
