Motorcyclist Killed by Minneapolis Police Vehicle that Ran a Red Light

This afternoon, Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau said that a police vehicle, an SUV, went through a red light when it collided with a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was killed and his passenger was seriously injured.  Police Chief Harteau said that the police vehicle had slowed to 16 or 17 miles per hour when it went through the intersection.

Prior to the fatal accident a burglary suspect was shot and killed during an altercation with two officers, who were shot in the legs. The police vehicle that hit and killed the motorcycle driver was responding to this burglary/shooting 30-plus minutes after the shooting.

The Police Chief stated this afternoon that the officer who was driving the SUV has not given a statement yet, even though the accident happened on Friday.
