Semitrailer Hits Pickup and SUV on Highway 61 near Red Wing, MN

A semitrailer driver lost control of his big rig and slid into oncoming traffic on Minnesota Highway 61 near Red Wing yesterday, killing one man and injuring four others. The roads were bad yesterday, and that should have been taken into consideration by the semi driver.

Semi drivers and trucking companies are legally responsible for personal injury and wrongful death resulting from an accident caused by the driver’s negligence.  Semi drivers are required by law to use extra care when driving because the vehicles are so large. In the winter, particularly after a big storm, this means slowing down.

Attorneys Fred Pritzker and Eric Hageman handled a case very similar to this one where a semitrailer hit a car, injuring the driver and seriously injuring the passenger, her husband. The trucking company denied fault. Fred and Eric hired an accident reconstruction team, including an animationist, whose animation of the accident showed how the semi truck driver caused the accident.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol a Winona man, a passenger in a pickup hit head-on by a semi, was killed. His parents were injured.  The occupants of an SUV hit by the semi were also injured.

Fred and Eric were named Minnesota “Attorneys of the Year” for winning a $2.4 million jury verdict for a family whose loved one died in an accident in Minneapolis. The police report had stated that the semitrailer driver was not at fault, but Fred and Eric worked to make sure the truth was uncovered.
