Updated June 24, 2025. A four-year-old boy, Ryker Corona, suffered serious burn injuries after an explosion at the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum in Seminole, Oklahoma. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 21, during a hands-on activity involving a s’mores machine at the museum’s Hello Summer Celebration event. According to early reports, a bottle of alcohol-based hand sanitizer caught fire and exploded, leaving Ryker with second-degree burns. He was airlifted to OKC Hospital for emergency treatment. Ryker’s family created a GoFundMe page to help support his recovery journey.
The exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation. However, the reported presence of an alcohol-based fuel near an open flame raises serious concerns about fire safety, especially in environments where children are present.

Burn Injury Risks from Alcohol-Based Fuels Near Open Flames
While the exact cause of the explosion at the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum is still under investigation, witness accounts suggest the fire started when a bottle of hand sanitizer ignited near an open flame.
Alcohol-based products such as hand sanitizers, ethanol, and isopropyl alcohol are extremely flammable. Though commonly used in schools, museums, and homes, they can become dangerous when placed too close to heat or fire. Even a small amount of alcohol vapor can ignite with explosive force, triggering a phenomenon known as flame jetting, where vapors inside a container ignite and propel flames to shoot out. Flame jetting has been linked to burn injuries involving alcohol-fueled fire pits and portable fireplaces, underscoring the importance of keeping all alcohol-based fuels far away from open flames.
