Food Truck Explosion at George Washington U Injures 3

Fire engine rushing to the scene of a fire

Updated 11/18 Three people were injured when a food truck on the campus of George Washington University exploded on Wednesday. The injured, who were working inside  the bus when it exploded, suffered severe burns and were transported to he burn unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Two of them are in critical condition, the third employee suffered less-serious injuries.

The Falafel Bus was in a row of food trucks parked on the 2100 block of H Street NW when it exploded at 2 p.m. November 16. Thick, black smoke from the fire billowed into the Foggy Bottom sky.

The fire began outside the truck when an employee added gas to a generator while the vehicle was running, which is a violation of safety guidelines, the D.C. fire department told the Washington Post. Generators should be re-fueled at service stations while the trucks are not operating, they said.
