Chubby Cattle Salmonella Outbreak in LA?

Some customers of the Chubby Cattle have reported developing Salmonella infections after dining at the restaurant, located at 356 E. 2nd St. in Los Angeles. In response, the Los Angeles County Public Health Department visited the restaurant and ordered a temporary closure of the restaurant on the same day they inspected it.

What Inspectors Found at Chubby Cattle in Los Angeles

During a July 11 visit, inspectors found a number of critical food safety violations, including:

  • Lack of proper handwashing methods and facilities
  • Lack of food safety certification
  • Lack of food safety knowledge
  • Lack of proper holding temperatures
  • Lack of clean and sanitized food contact surfaces
  • Live flies

Some observations from inspectors included:

“Observed multiple knives with old food debris encrusted on food contact surfaces stored at the front sushi bar and cold top refrigerator at the main kitchen.”


“Observed three cutting boards stored directly on the floor in the main kitchen, the operator installed cutting boards at the food preparation line, failing to properly clean and sanitize cutting boards.”
