Townhouse Explosion in Mount Clemens Injures 2

Two men were injured when a townhouse exploded in Mount Clemens, Michigan. Fire investigators say a natural gas leak likely caused the destructive explosion that blew the house off its foundation. Around 9 PM Wednesday, first responders arrived on the scene at North Rose Town Houses near Groesbeck Highway. Fire Captain Nick Candela told the Macomb Daily, “We couldn’t send anyone inside because there was a structural collapse hazard.” The two men who lived in the townhouse had self-evacuated. They were transported to McLaren Macomb Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One of the survivors was later transferred to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

Neighbors who heard the explosion thought it was a bomb or a tornado. Residents of North Rose Town Houses reported smelling gas in the air before the explosion happened. Crews from DTE Energy and Consumers Energy responded to the scene. The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
