Natural Grocers Amaranth Salmonella Recall

Natural Grocers organic amaranth has been recalled for Salmonella risk. Consumers who have purchased this product should not eat it as Salmonella can cause serious illness.

On July 22, Vitamin Cottage Natural Food Markets, Inc. of Lakewood, CO issued a recall for Natural Grocers 1-pound bags of Organic Amaranth Grain for Salmonella risk. Vitamin Cottage issued the recall after receiving notification from one of its suppliers.

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection, which usually develop within 6 to 72 hours of exposure to contaminated food include nausea, vomiting, fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea that is sometimes bloody.

The recall includes:

  • Natural Grocers Organic Amaranth Grain
  • 1-pound bags
  • Pack dates: 22-102, 22-103, 22-130, and 22-194. The pack date is located on the lower left-hand side of the label near the USDA Organic seal.
  • Sold at Natural Grocers’ stores located in Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
