Updated June 23 with recalls of products containing recalled Jif peanut butter. Four dozen varieties of Jif peanut butter are being recalled in connection with a multistate Salmonella Senftenberg outbreak. The recall includes creamy, crunchy, honey, and natural peanut butter sold in a variety of sizes and containers including jars, cans, and squeezable pouches. Consumers should check recall information carefully. None of the Jif peanut butter varieties included in the recall should be consumed as Salmonella can cause serious illness. Some of the outbreak patients have required hospitalization.
Jif Peanut Butter Salmonella Recall
On May 20, 2022, J. M. Smucker Co. of Orrville, OH issued a recall for 48 varieties of Jif peanut butter that may be contaminated with Salmonella. Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include fever, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea that can be bloody. These symptoms usually develop within six to 72 hours of exposure.
The recalled peanut butter products listed below with their corresponding UPC numbers were distributed nationwide to grocery stores and other retailers. The recalled products have lot codes within the range 1274425 – 2140425. On the label, lot codes appear alongside the best-if-used-by date. (See the first two images below.)
