Springfield, VA Gas Line Explosion Injures 3

Three members of a Washington Gas crew were injured in a gas line explosion in Springfield, VA  on February 3. The crew was working in the 8500 block of Hooes Road to repair a gas leak when it struck the line with a backhoe at around 12:45 p.m.

Flames, which shot 50 to 70 feet into the air, consumed two cars and spread to four nearby homes. Three of the workers were transported to an area hospital. A fourth crew member received treatment at the scene.
