Propane Leak was Source of South Haven Twp, MI Explosion, Officials Say

A propane leak on the exterior of the home was the source of a May 25 fatal house explosion in South Haven Township, MI, officials say. South Haven Area Emergency Services today completed its investigation of the blast that injured Bob and Colleen Van Wagner who were both taken to Bronson South Haven Hospital where Colleen died of her injuries.

South Haven Area Emergency Services Executive Director Brandon Hinz told WWMT that there was a propane leak outside the home and the gas migrated to the basement where it was ignited by an unknown source. Unlike natural gas which is lighter than air, propane is heavier and accumulates in low-lying areas.
