Propane Leak Suspected in Fatal Home Explosion in Holton, KS

A propane leak is the suspected source of a May 17 home explosion in Holton, KS that left one man dead and a woman seriously injured. Killed in the blast was Billy “Lu” Griffiths, 61, of Holton. His wife, Teri, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a Kansas City hospital.

Emergency responders were called to the house, located at 27284 Q4 Rd., at around 6:10 p.m. When they arrived, what remained of the house was on fire and debris was strewn all over the property, some was hanging from trees. Billy and Teri were both found outside, but not in the same place.

Jackson Co. Sheriff Tim Morse told local media that a propane leak was the likely cause of the explosion. An investigation is ongoing.
