Propane is the suspected source of a house explosion in Berne, NY last night that killed Victor Porlier, 83 and Lois Porlier, 72. The blast occurred around 8:20 p.m. Soon after, the three-story home located at 1470 Hilltop Lane was enveloped in flames.

Berne is located about 25 miles west of Albany in the “Helderberg Hilltowns,” four towns nestled in the hills of western Albany County. (The other towns are Rensselaerville, Knox and Westerlo.)
