Listeria Recall for Little Hatch’s Queso and Jalapeno Cream Cheese

Little Hatch’s queso, spicy queso, and jalapeno cream cheese have been recalled for potential Listeria contamination. The Little Hatch’s Listeria recall includes products sold at Whole Foods stores in Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah, and El Paso, Texas. Natural Grocers stores in the Denver area also sold the products. The company said it was not aware of any illnesses associated with the products at the time of the recall. However, consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.

Interstate Food Products of Lakewood Colorado issued the recall on May 28, 2021 after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found Listeria in FDA revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in 13.5-ounce packages of Little Hatch’s Jalapeno Cream Cheese, Queso and Spicy Queso.

The recalled products, sold in 13.5 -ounce, clear plastic package, are:

  • Little Hatch’s Jalapeno Cream Cheese stores, UPC code is 63818396147
  • Little Hatch’s Queso dip, UPC code 638183961496
  • Little Hatch’s Spicy Queso dip, UPC code 7051005091000

Listeria Symptoms

Listeria symptoms usually develop within two weeks of eating contaminated food but sometimes they can take as long as two months to develop. They include high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, other muscle stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are at elevated risk of contracting Listeria infections and can suffer miscarriage or stillbirth even if they only experience mild symptoms.
