The building, located on Paulding Ave., is owned by Trackside Homes L.L.C. Investigators from the Department of Buildings said they found Illegal hookups for the washer, dryer and water heater that were located in the first-floor laundry room.

One person told PIX 11 that he smelled gas before the explosion and opened doors so it would dissipate. Investigators are working to determine what role, if any, the illegal plumbing may have played in the blast.
