Zionsville Fireworks Explosion Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Injured in Pennsylvania

One person is dead and another is badly injured after a series of explosions inside two tractor-trailers filled with fireworks in Zionsville, PA yesterday. Black plumes of smoke could be seen miles away from the residential property in the small village in Lehigh County, PA where the tractor-trailers were parked. Authorities identified the man who died as Brian Ehret, 50, the owner of the property.

One of the tractor-trailers was blown apart and one structure on the property in the 8400 block of Orchard Road collapsed. Residents told local media that they heard the sound of the first blast around 3 p.m. and some said their windows were blown out as the explosions continued for 45 minutes.

In addition to the state police and the bomb squad, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was called to the scene. Investigators have not yet determined what caused the explosions.
