A semi-truck struck and killed a bicyclist in Jasper County, IA this morning. The crash happened at about 4:30 A.M. in the 8000-block of Hwy. 6 near Kellogg. Jermey Ray Williams (43) of Newton died at the scene after a semi-trailer truck struck his bicycle.
According to the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, the state averaged 5.7 bicycle deaths per year between 2006-19. Bicycle safety advocates in Iowa are concerned that a fatal crash happened so early in the new year. The National Weather Service predicted that temperatures in Des Moines would hit 43 degrees on Monday, which puts more cyclists on the roads and trails.
