Iowa Bicyclist Killed in Motor Vehicle Crash Near Muscatine

A bicyclist was fatally struck by a car in Iowa last Thursday. Michael “Joe” Mann (56) of Muscatine, IA was biking southbound on Moscow Road when a car struck him from behind. Mann was pronounced dead at the scene. A technical investigation of the crash by the Iowa State Patrol is still in progress.

Mann was an experienced cyclist who shared a love of high-endurance events with his wife, Connie. Fellow cyclists with the Muscatine Melon City Bike Club described Mann in the Des Moines Register as the “definition of a safe rider” who always wore bright-colored clothing and flashers. A long-time friend honored Mann with a ghost bike memorial at the scene of the accident. The memorial is meant to remind drivers to watch for bicyclists to help prevent tragic accidents.
