An August 14 explosion at TAC East Inc. in East Chicago, IN left three workers with serious burn injuries. They were admitted to the burn unit at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL where they are reported to be in stable condition.
Witnesses told local media that the fire that followed the blast created a black plume of smoke that could be seen for miles.
T.A.C. uses chemicals to clean tanker trucks that transport chemicals or petroleum products. “Safety protocols are critical in this industry,” said Explosion Lawyer Fred Pritzker. In May, an explosion at Polar Service Center in Lockwood, MT, which also cleans tanker trucks, injured two people. That same month, two people were killed and four others were injured in an explosion at CRU Railcar Services, an Elmendorf, TX-based company that cleans railcars that carry chemicals and petroleum products.
