Explosion at TAC East Leaves 3 with Serious Burn Injuries

An August 14 explosion at TAC East Inc. in East Chicago, IN left three workers with serious burn injuries. They were admitted to the burn unit at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL where they are reported to be in stable condition.

The cause of the explosion at the industrial cleaning facility located at 2000 E. Gary Road is still under investigation. Although firefighters arrived within minutes of the 7:20 a.m. call, the building is a total loss.

Witnesses told local media that the fire that followed the blast created a black plume of smoke that could be seen for miles.
