Winn Dixie, Sprouts and Savemart Sold JBS Beef Recalled for Salmonella

Winn Dixie, Sprouts, Savemart, Harvey’s, Lucky and FoodMaxx are among the stores that sold recalled JBS Tolleson ground beef after it was linked to a Salmonella outbreak. Fifty-seven illnesses have been reported from 16 states, 14 people have been hospitalized.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service posted the recall of 6.5 million pounds of beef on its website on October 4, 2018, and posted the list of stores that sold the recalled meat today.

The recalled meat was sold at:

  • Harvey’s Supermarket stores in Florida and Georgia
  • Hudson Locker in Colorado
  • John’s Marketplace in California
  • Lucky stores in California
  • Mi Pueblo Latin Market in Colorado
  • Maxx Value in California
  • Pricechopper in Kansas
  • Sam’s Club
  • S-Mart stores in California

JBS Beef Salmonella Recall

The recalled ground beef and ground chuck products were sold as burgers and in chubs of various sizes. They were packaged between July 26, 2018 and Sept. 7, 2018 and have the establishment number “EST. 267” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were sold under a variety of brand names including Cedar River Farms Natural Beef, Comnor Perfect Choice, Gourmet Burger, Grass Run Farms Natural Beef, JBS Generic., Showcase and Showcase/Walmart.

Symptoms of a Salmonella Infection

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and fever. They usually develop within six to 72 hours of exposure and last about a week. In cases where the infection travels from the intestinal tract to the bloodstream, Salmonella infections can be life-threatening.
