According to the State Patrol, a Ford F150 truck pulling a trailer was heading East on I-94 near the County Road 81 exit in Rogers, MN. When the Ford began to slow down for traffic, it was struck from behind by a single axle Kenworth box truck.  This caused the Ford to spin around into a construction lane and strike two vehicles and two construction workers who were part of a WSB construction crew.

One of the construction workers, Vernon Carl Hedquist, a 59-year-old man from Pillager Minnesota, was tragically killed in the crash.  The other construction worker, Thomas John Wood, was injured and taken to Maple Grove Hospital.  The drivers of the Ford and Kenworth trucks were not injured.

The State Patrol, Rogers Police Department, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and North Memorial Ambulance Service all responded to the scene.

Tiffani Nielsen, a spokesperson for the Minnesota State Patrol, said the State Patrol is investigating and that charges will likely be filed against the driver of the box truck.

“While it is important to allow the police to complete their investigation, it seems clear this is a tragedy which never should have happened. The families impacted by this crash deserve answers as to how and why it happened. To prevent any evidence from being lost or destroyed, it’s crucial that all of the evidence be preserved, including the truck’s black box data, and that witness accounts of the crash be memorialized, to somehow make sense of this tragedy.”
