Greenwood, SC Explosion Injures 3 Adults, 2 Children

Three adults and two children were injured in an apartment explosion in Greenwood, SC on November 4. One of the children suffered a skull fracture and at least one of the adults was airlifted to the JMS Burn Center in Augusta.

First responders arrived on the scene on Independence Way in Greenwood just after 2:15 a.m. The explosion and fire that followed completely destroyed two of three adjoining units and damaged several others.  An adult in one of the units and a four-member family of two adults and two children in another unit were injured in the blast.

Neighbors described hearing a loud boom and feeling their houses shake.  Fire crews were at the scene for several hours. Officials are still working to identify the source of the explosion.
