1 Dead After Fire at Kalamazoo Senior Living Center

One woman is dead after fire broke out at the Crosstown Parkway Apartments, a senior living complex in Kalamazoo, MI. Fire crews, called to the scene at 550 W. Crosstown Parkway just before 4 a.m. on Saturday, found the woman trapped on her seventh-floor balcony. After firefighters rescued her, she was transported to Bronson Hospital where she later died.

Witnesses told local media that flames were shooting out of an apartment window. The fire was contained to one unit on the seventh floor, but the extent of the smoke and water damage forced the evacuation of the entire building.  Residents were relocated to the YMCA at 1001 W. Maple Street.

Officials have not yet determined the source of the fire.
