Fatal Truck Crash in Dakota County

A crash between a car and an International Tractor truck has killed a man in Dakota County on March 2, 2016 at 3:48 p.m. on Highway 50 near Dark Horse Lane.

A man was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry north on 50 near Hampton when he swerved into the south 50 Lane, hitting the International Tractor truck head on. The roads were dry at the time. Mr. Swanson was killed. Our thoughts are with the family.

The man who died was a theater director at three high schools in the south metro area, and directed shows for the Eagan Community Theater. He retired in 2003, but helped start the theater program at Lakeville South High School. He won awards for his teaching and theater productions, including the Outstanding Individual in Communication and Theatre Aware from the Communication and Theatre Association of Minnesota. He was inducted into the Minnesota State High School League Hall of Fame in 2013 and into the halls of fame at Apple Valley High School and Richfield High School. He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, children, and grandchildren.
