Three Injured in Tractor Trailer Crash in Sumter County

Three people are in critical condition after their car was hit by a tractor trailer on Saturday, April 16, 2016. the accident happened on State Road 44 in Sumter County. The big rig was making a U-turn onto westbound 44 to go towards I-75, and the 2012 Chevy Malibu, which was traveling westbound, hit the center of the truck and was wedged underneath. The driver of the tractor trailer was cited for a right-of-way violation.

The driver of the car, an 84-year-old man from Wildwood, and the two passengers in the car are all in critical condition at Ocala Regional Medical Center. The driver of the semi was not injured. The three injured people had to be extracted from the car.
