Orland Park Man Injured in House Fire Hospitalized With Burns

An Orland Park. IL man was injured while trying to put out a fire in his home on Monday. He was transported to the burn unit at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.

Firefighters responded to a 10:22 a.m. call to a house fire in the 13800 block of 80th Avenue. When they arrived, they encountered a heavy fire which they believe began in or near a live Christmas tree and spread through the house. They battled the fire for just over an hour.

Each year, U.S. fire departments respond to an average of 210 fires that begin with Christmas trees, according to the National Fire Protection Association. These fires tend to be more deadly than house fires originating from other source. On average, they result in 16 injuries, six deaths and $16.2 million in direct property damage each year. The injuries most often reported are smoke inhalation and burns.
