A man died in a house fire that broke out early this morning in Madison County, IL. Preliminary reports are that the man, John D. Beckovich, 70, died of smoke inhalation after his mobile home caught fire.
The home, located in the 5200 block of Chain of Rocks Road, in unincorporated Madison County just north of Glen Carbon, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after midnight. The cause of the fire has not been identified. Investigators said Beckovich had health issues and multiple oxygen tanks were stored inside of his home.
Beckovich’s daughter, Jennifer N. Jones, told investigators that she tried to rescue her father but was unable to do so. She was able to escape the fire.
Jones made an attempt to save her father, but authorities said the flames of the home were too intense.
