Fatal Crash on I 94 in Minneapolis Kills One, Injures 4

A crash on I 94 in Minneapolis resulted in the tragic death of a 41-year-old man from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Four passengers on a Metro Transit bus were injured.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol preliminary report, a Chevy Trailblazer was traveling westbound on I 94 when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the median and broad sided a Volvo Station Wagon driven by Kirk Washington that was traveling eastbound on I 94. After the initial impact, the Volvo was pushed into a Metro Transit bus that was traveling eastbound on I 94. Mr. Washington did not survive the crash. Four passengers in the Metro Transit bus required transport to Regions Hospital:William Armstrong, from St. Paul; Marcus Dresbach, from Minneapolis; Zain Rizvi, from Rochester, MN; and Railene Fineday, from Minneapolis.

Multi-vehicle crashes can involve complex liability issues. Three vehicles were part of this accident. The Chevy Trailblazer started it all by crossing the median and hitting the Volvo, and that impact pushed the station wagon into a bus. Although the station wagon hit the bus, fault most likely lies with the driver of the Trailblazer, and even if the fatal injuries happened upon impact with the bus, the wrongful death claim would most likely be lodged against the driver of the Chevy.

Another issue here will most likely be determining the reason for the loss of control that resulted in the Chevy crossing the median. Whether it was falling asleep at the wheel, distracted driving, or something else, that driver is most likely going to have to account for what happened.
