3 Die in Hillsborough, NJ Apartment Fire

Fire engine rushing to the scene of a fire

Three people died in a Monday night fire at an apartment complex in Hillsborough Township, NJ. The fire, which began just after 10 p.m., is believed to have started in a bedroom in one of the second-floor units.

Witnesses described hearing a loud noise and smelling something before the fire ripped through the building on Farm Road. Fire alarms continued to blare while firefighters battled the blaze until PSE&G cut power to the building just after 11 p.m.

Fire crews had the fire knocked down by 11:15  and most had left the scene by 1 a.m.  But investigators from the police and fire departments and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office remained on the scene. The investigation is ongoing and the names of the victims won’t be released until their families are notified, authorities said.
