Semi Driver Causes Wreck in Indiana, Kills Minnesota Couple

Federal investigators suspect driver fatigue as the cause of a tragic accident in Indiana that killed a Minnesota couple and critically injured their granddaughter. A semi truck driver hit the couple’s SUV from behind.

“Although federal regulations put limits on the amount of time a commercial truck driver can be on the road without taking a break to sleep, some drivers and trucking companies routinely break these rules,” said Eric Hageman, a lead attorney for our semi truck accident personal injury and wrongful death cases. “The result is tragic accidents like this.”

The accident happened at around 12:10 p.m. on Saturday on westbound Interstate 70, 35 miles east of Indianapolis, Indiana. The SUV had slowed down due to construction. The semitrailer truck did not slow down, and hit the SUV from behind, pushing it into the back of another semi and then into a car, according to news reports.
