NHTSA Urges Action on Defective Airbag Recall Notices

Millions of cars and vans have been recalled for defective airbags. Faulty inflators in the airbags can rupture (explode) when an accident triggers airbag deployment. Metal fragments from the inflators can then spray out from the airbag, causing serious injury or wrongful death.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is now urging vehicle owners to act on the recall notices and get new airbags in their vehicles.

You can read our earlier article about these recalls detailing 3 crash injuries from defective Takata airbags.

Recall Information

  • Recalled airbags were made by Takata;
  • Recalls involve certain Toyota, Honda, Mazda, BMW, Nissan and General Motors models;
  • It is particularly urgent for vehicles owners in Florida, Puerto Rico, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, Virgin Islands and Hawaii to take immediate action on recall notices, according to NHTSA;
  • Go to http://www.safercar.gov/ and search your vehicle to see if it has been recalled (you will get better information if you use your vehicle identification number (VIN)).
