Stryker Orthopedics Lawsuit: 5 Things Hip Recall Patients in Minnesota Should Know

Hip Replacement Recall
Stryker Hip Implants Removed from One of Our Clients

On July 6, 2012, Stryker® Orthopedics recalled its Rejuvenate® and ABGTM II modular-neck hip stem products. The recall came after reports of hip replacement failure and complications from metallosis, metal poisoning from chromium and cobalt ions.

Attorney Fred Pritzker and his Hip Recall Law Team have filed several lawsuits against Stryker for hip implant patients in Minnesota. Below are 5 things you should know about your Stryker Rejuvenate or ABG II hip implant and filing a suit against the company:

  1. The Stryker Orthopedics recalled hip implants are stem and neck pieces that fit together. It is at this joint where the pieces rub together, scraping off small metal particles called ions. These metal ions cause metallosis.
  2. When the metallosis leads to hip replacement failure, the only recourse is revision surgery to remove and replace the device. This is an extremely invasive surgery that causes severe pain and suffering.
  3. Metallosis (chromium and cobalt poisoning) can kill tissue and bone around the hip implants, making full recovery from revision surgery impossible. This needs to be considered as you seek personal injury compensation from Stryker.
  4. Even if you are not experiencing any hip pain and feel like your Stryker Rejuvenate or ABG II hip implant is fine, you may have chromium and cobalt poisoning that will get worse over time.  Our experience is that the failure rate for these devices is quite high.
  5. Your suit against Stryker will ask for money to compensate you for your medical expenses, lost income, pain, disability, loss of quality of life and other lawful damages. You trusted Stryker to provide a safe product, and they sold a defective product. The company needs to be held accountable.
