What is the Problem with Member’s Mark Super Greens?

Member’s Mark Super Greens is a dietary supplement containing several dried fruits and vegetables, including powdered spirulina, kelp, moringa, beetroot, kale, blueberry, and pineapple. After illnesses were reported, Michigan health officials tested an open container of the product collected from an outbreak patient’s home. It was positive for Salmonella.
Whole genome sequencing (WGS), testing that can identify the genetic “fingerprint” of a bacterial strain, was performed on Salmonella found in the product. Results show it is closely related to the strain found in the outbreak patients.
Virginia health officials found Salmonella in an open container of moringa leaf powder they collected from an ill person’s home. WGS showed that the Salmonella in the moringa leaf powder is also closely related to the outbreak strain. This indicates that moringa leaf powder is the source of the outbreak.
Moringa trees are native to India. Their leaves contain vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties. The Salmonella Richmond infections in this outbreak are linked to a single lot of moringa leaf powder from Vallon Farm Direct PVT LTD of Johdpur, India.
Health officials don’t know yet how the ingredient became contaminated. It can happen if contaminated water was used to grow or process the plant or through cross-contamination.
What Do We Know About the Member’s Mark Super Greens Salmonella Outbreak?
Between May 12, 2025, and September 4, 2025, 11 people were diagnosed with Salmonella Richmond infections. Three of them were so sick they were hospitalized.
The patients, who range in age from 13 to 65 years old, are from seven states: Florida (2), Kansas (2), Michigan (1), North Carolina (1), New York (1), South Carolina (1), and Virginia (3).

Health officials are interviewing patients about the foods they ate in the week before they got sick. Of the 10 people interviewed so far, nine said they had eaten powdered dietary supplements. Six specifically mentioned Member’s Mark Super Greens Powder. Three others said they had eaten products containing moringa leaf powder.
WGS performed on the Salmonella cultured from patients showed a close relation. This suggests they ate the same contaminated food.
