An Akron house explosion injured one man Monday morning. Fire crews arrived at the scene on the 2300 block of Edwin Avenue after receiving a call about an explosion. A man who lived down the street rescued his elderly neighbor from the house. When he first heard the explosion, he thought a truck hit his house before he realized what happened. The neighbor told News5 Cleveland, “when you see something like that…you’re gonna save somebody.” Paul Stauffer (81) was found standing in his kitchen with serious burn injuries. He was transported to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center before he was transferred to the burn unit at Akron Children’s Hospital.
A spokesperson from the Akron Fire Department says gas is likely a factor in the explosion. Dominion Gas Company sent investigators to the scene.
