Listeria Recall for Cahill Cheddar Cheeses Sold at Whole Foods

Whole Foods has issued a Listeria recall for Cahill Cheddar cheeses sold at 44 stores in 22 states. The recall includes Cahil Whiskey Cheddar and Cahill Cheddar with Porter. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.

At the time of the recall, Whole Foods said it was unaware of any illnesses related to the consumption of these cheeses. However, Listeria can take as long as 70 days to develop. Consumers who have recently purchased and eaten these cheeses should monitor themselves for symptoms of a Listeria infection which include: severe headache, stiff neck, other muscle stiffness, fever, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.

The recalled cheeses were packaged in clear, plastic wrap with a Whole Foods Market scale label with “packed on” dates from May 17 – July 26, 2021. The Cheddar with Porter PLU is 93579, the
Whiskey Cheddar PLUs are 54784 and 94884. They were sold in the specialty department of 44 stores in the following 22 states: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
