Nine States Affected By Salmonella Peaches Outbreak

Peaches Sliced - Salmonella Outbreak LawsuitA Salmonella outbreak linked to fresh peaches from Wawona Packing sold at ALDI, Walmart and Target has sickened 68 people in nine states. Fourteen people have been hospitalized. Target is removing the products from its stores.  ALDI has issued a recall that includes bags of conventional and organic peaches and peaches sold in bulk bins. Consumers who have purchased peaches at these stores recently should check the recall information carefully as Salmonella can cause serious illness. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever.

Minnesota Particularly Hard Hit

Illnesses have been reported from nine states: Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. Minnesota has been hard hit by the outbreak, reporting 23 illnesses and six hospitalizations among people ranging in age from 3 to 92 years old. The Minnesota Department of Health reported illnesses between July 12 and August 3, 2020, but there may be so far unreported illnesses outside of those dates.

The affected stores are located in Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin and West Virginia. The recalled items were also available via Instacart.

  • The recalled 2-pound bags of conventional peaches have the UPC 033383322001.
  • The recalled 2-pound bags of organic peaches have the UPC 849315000400.
  • The loose bulk peaches may bear a sticker with the Wawona name.
