Fire investigators say the fire broke out when a table lamp fell onto Muccino’s bed and ignited the bedding. At the time of the fire, Muccino was either in or near the bed. A spokesperson for Gorham House said that an alarm sounded at about 10:30 P.M. that was triggered by a smoke detector in Muccino’s room. The rest of the Gorham House residents were evacuated to a smoke and fire-proof area in the building.

According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, this is the fifth fire-related death in the state in 2020.
