Rubble-from-house-explosion

Two people were injured when a house in Port Clinton, Ohio exploded on Friday. The married couple who lived at the house, located in the 2600 block of East Harbor Road near state routes 163 and 53, was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The incident, which leveled one home and started a neighboring home on fire,  was reported at 8:46 a.m. on Friday. Neighbors told local media that the deafening explosion blew out windows and knocked things off the walls of their homes.

People at the scene told authorities they had noticed a gas smell in the area for several days before the explosion.  The house that exploded had a propane tank. The house was reduced to a pile of small pieces of debris.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the explosion. Propane tanks have been the source of other home explosions. Victims in these incidents suffer severe injuries that require specialized treatment often over an extended period of time.
