Vine Ripe Tomato Salmonella Recall

Ray & Mascari Inc. of Indianapolis issued the Vine Ripe tomato Salmonella recall on May 2 after being notified by supplier Hanshaw & Capling Farms of the possible presence of Salmonella in their facility. The recall includes:

  • 4 Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes
  • Packaged in clamshell containers [20 oz. (1 lb. 4 oz) 567g]
  • UPC# 7 96553 20062 1
  • Master case label with Lot# RM250424 15250B or Lot# RM250427 15250B
  • Sold at Gordon Food Service Stores in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.

Salmonella Symptoms

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection usually develop six to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. They include nausea, abdominal cramps, fever, vomiting and diarrhea that can be bloody.
