Updated September 3, with an expanded recall from Southwind Foods. Southwind Foods of Carson, California, has issued a recall for five brands of frozen shrimp that may be contaminated with Cesium-137, a radioactive substance. The recall includes Sand Bar, Best Yet, Arctic Shores, and Great American Seafood frozen shrimp. These products may pose a low-level risk of radiation exposure; consumers should not eat them.
The recalled bagged, frozen shrimp was distributed between July 17, 2025, and August 8, 2025, to retailers, distributors, and wholesalers in nine states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, and Washington.

This recall comes days after the FDA issued a warning that Great Value shrimp sold at Walmart stores may also have been exposed to Cesium-137. The FDA is The FDA investigating reports of Cesium-137 contamination in shipping containers and frozen shrimp products processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (doing business as BMS Foods) of Indonesia.
On August 29, the recall was expanded to include additional items.
AquaStar Shrimp Recall at Kroger and Walmart
On August 28, AquaStar issued reaclls for shrimp, imported from Indonesia, because they may have been prepared, packed, or held under conditions where they may have become contaminated with cesium-137 (Cs-137). These shrimp were sold at Kroger and Walmart stores. Consumers who have purchased these shrimp should not eat them.
The AquaStar shrimp recall at Walmart includes:
- 6-oz packages of shrimp on a clear plastic tray with a red and white label
- Sold only at Walmart stores in AK, AL, AR, CO, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, OH, OK, OR, SD, TN, TX, WA, and WI
- Sold between July 31, 2025, and August 16, 2025.

The AquaStar shrimp recall at Kroger includes:
