Hofood99 enoki mushrooms have been recalled for Listeria, a bacterium that can cause severe illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.

Hofood99 Enoki Mushroom Listeria Recall

Hofood99 Inc. of Brooklyn, NY, issued the recall on June 11, 2025, after being notified of the problem by the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development. The agency had collected samples of enoki mushrooms from grocery stores, and testing revealed the presence of Listeria.

Symptoms of Listeria infection may include:

  • Headache
  • Stiff neck
  • Fever
  • Muscle aches
  • Nausea
  • Tiredness
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Confusion
  • Loss of balance
  • Convulsions

Symptoms usually start within two weeks of consuming contaminated food, but can begin as early as the same day or as late as 10 weeks after exposure. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriage or stillbirth even if they only have mild, flu-like symptoms.

Enoki mushrooms are frequently recalled for Listeria and have been linked to outbreaks of illness. At the time of the recall, Hofood99 management said the company was not aware of any illnesses.
